Our U13s made the trip to Trim GAA on a drizzly Sunday morning. Coming into the game on the back of a few narrow defeats, these young men were eager to get a win under their belts.
The game started with both teams trading a number of early scores with the talented Bobby Barron and Lochlan Rowley slotting over some lovely scores from play and frees.
However, Trim found their groove and for a period of 10/15 minutes battered the Longwood defence. But William Birmingham, Lucas Hennessy and Aidan Sharkey were up to the task and limited the Trim lads to just a few points. The versatile Dylan Dixon came to Longwood's rescue with a super save from an outstretched leg. Some great work from our midfielders, Lochlan Rowley and Sean Byrne and 2 great points from Conor Baldwin ensured the Longwood lads finished the half with a slender lead.
The second half started with some changes, Aodhan Freeman replacing Dylan Dixon in goals allowing Dylan to cause some damage outfield. Dylan didn't need to be asked twice finishing the game with a tally of 2-1.
Once again, the Longwood defence held strong with Tadgh Schram, Thomas Maguire and Emmet Collins battling for every ball while at the other end Tyler Mulligan, Conor Baldwin and the impressive Leo Holton keeping the score board ticking over. Cuan Saunders, Caiden Connor, Luca Farrell and Rory Forkin playing big parts in some very important scores to ensure the Longwood lads kept Trim at bay.
The moment of the match which epitomised today's performance came mid way through the second half when Aodhan Freeman pulled off a double save with Erikas Petkus at full stretch to clear the ball off the line from Trim's third attempt at goal. Erikas showing that never give up attitude.
Finally, a thank you to all the U11s making the trip to Trim today. Really talented young lads who didn't just come to make up numbers, ultimately contributing 1:4 to the final scoreline.
